How to Get Here

We’d recommend hiring a car at Cairns Airport (the nearest airport) – it’s the easiest way to travel and gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. Unfortunately there’s no reliable public transport from Cairns to the Atherton Tablelands, but getting here is part of the experience!

If hiring a car isn’t an option for you, just let us know and we’ll do our best to help coordinate alternative transport.

There are two routes from Cairns to the Atherton Tablelands: the Gillies Range and the Kuranda Range. Both involve a winding climb through the mountains and offer beautiful views along the way.

For guests prone to motion sickness, we recommend the Kuranda Range option. It adds about 10 minutes to the drive from Cairns Airport to Yungaburra, but it’s generally a gentler (though still winding) alternative to the steeper, more intense Gillies Range.

On the wedding day, the ceremony will take place at the MacKinnon Family Property which is located in Tolga. It’s about a 25 minute drive from Yungaburra, where the reception will be held.

The Atherton Tablelands

Less than 1.5 hours’ drive from Cairns Airport, the Atherton Tablelands is a region of rolling green hills, crystal-clear waterfalls, and charming country towns. The elevation also means the climate is typically much cooler (and less humid) than Cairns.

For those who’ve never visited, we look forward to sharing with you what makes the Tablelands so special to us. It’s a truly beautiful part of the world, and we’re excited to be celebrating our wedding here with you.
